Exposing Autism Fraud and Advocating for Legislative Change Through the Autistic-Led BanABA Initiative

Thanks to the media, the news was showcased about the FBI raiding autism centers ! Everyone is messaging me, and begging for an action item. Well, here it is (my baby).

The purpose of my facebook group is to populate a central database of resources pertaining to the federal ban on ABA. This autistic-led #banABA initiative is lobbying to enact legislative changes to The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990.

In 2023, the Legislature directed the Department of Human Services to address the issue of autism fraud. This action follows allegations of fraudulent activities at autism treatment centers in Minnesota.

Senator John Hoffman (DFL-Champlin), chair of the Senate Human Services Committee issued a public statement, “Stealing from our most vulnerable is inexcusable and illegal, and the people who committed this fraud must be punished to the fullest extent of the law. We must explore how the state can prevent this fraud in the future and catch and punish bad actors. In 2023, the Legislature directed the Department of Human Services to evaluate these programs and make recommendations to strengthen regulations and oversight. Creating a licensing process was another step in the right direction. I vow to continue providing the Department with the resources needed to provide oversight and stop this fraud. Providing essential services to people with disabilities is a core value of us all as Minnesotans, and I look forward to working with the Department, experts and families to learn how best to support the community and eliminate vulnerabilities in the system.”
